I am looking into buying a new 1650 Fish Hawk. I will mainly be using it for trolling but also I don't want to be so under powered that it has to work too hard. For a manufacturer I've settled on Honda. Do you think a 60hp would do the trick or do you think a 75 would be better? My biggest concern is with a 75 it wouldn't troll down slow enough. It will be used 95% of the time on inland lakes but once in a while when the weather is good maybe out on Lake Michigan - not too far. Thank you in advance.

I don't have experience with the newer boats but I wanted to mention that if you are buying new, you will have to look hard for a boat without a motor. The Dealer here said they had to charge alot more for the boat of you didn't buy it with a Mercury on it.

The dealer I'm working with is a Merc & Honda dealer. It sounded like from the dealer that quite a few buyers were changing motors. It is more but I didn't think it was too out of line.

A general rule of thumb suggests you take around 75% of the maximum power rating for the boat to have good performance.
