I bought a boat with a 1986 blackmax oil injection The injection beeper goes off constantly. the system is functioning properly. I first replaced the reserve tank cap. I also replaced the stator, both switch boxes, the injection module, the driven shaft the motion sensor the motion sensor it self the one on the shaft . I checked the gear inside the block. its in good shape. I can run it and watch the oil drip down the clear tube at idle and pick up the volume with throtle. i also replaced the throttle control with a comander 2000 with a new buzzer, everything is new except for the pump and it is functioning properly. the only thing that is not factory are the heads so their is no overheating sensor buzzer just a gauge on dash I also filled the reserve all the way to the top. Thank You Joe

Re: 175 hp Blackmax oil injection

Joe,

The oil warning module takes the pulses from the oil pump and compares them to the pulses of the ignition on the green wire that comes up the right side of the exhaust plate and plugs into the oil warning module.

If that green wire gets punched/shorted, broken or unpluged the module 'alerts', if the output of the oil pump sender is weak, erratic or slow, the module 'alerts'.

test the green wire with a DVA meter to ensure it is working correctly, if not why not, if yes then test the output of the oil pump sensor, if BOTH test good then the module is defective.

I'd have to find the book to give you test values. Monday or Tues unless one of the others have them at home and post them.

I replace that module already and checked the wire . I thought that was the problem all I can figure is some how that shaft inside the block isn't turning correctly. so the module thinks it has stopped. I no, it has'nt by the oil flow. I looked in the block with a light and I do not see any teeth missing. is it possibly that shaft is walking away from the gear. So I bought a new shaft what I see is the drive shaft just sits in the block. their seems to be a half moon in their on one side. the block on the other side I also had this engine rebuilt and the tech checked the gear and said it was fine. I have had this problem before and after the rebuild Thank You Joe

If you pulled the oil pump, did you make sure the magnet was replaced correctly? There is a north and south pole and it must be correct to work properly. This works like the old speed controls where you would stick a magnet on the drive line, this is the same principle.

near as I could tell the magnet is glued into the bushing. that goes on the end of the drive shaft. it's not removeable. I was looking into the after market oil injection but some reason its only for 1989 on. Thank You Joe

I just went out and pulled the oil pump off again the shaft is being pushed away from the gear. it looks like a bushing is missing inside the block where the shaft rides I am taking inside the block not the one on the outside where the magnet is. anyone have any ideas What's missing ? thank You Joe

Does someone have a v6 block from the 80's around where they could look in the block where the oil pump shaft goes and see if their is a bushing mounted in the block or is the block made to hold the end of the shaft . I looked on micro film today and it does not show anything in the block. thank You Joe

Re: 175 hp Blackmax oil injection

The cross section in the 1989 Merc OEM manual shows a "bushing" for the shaft to fit into at the bottom of the block. It does not say anything about it coming out, so I would assume it is maybe tapped into place and held in place by the shaft.

They say to use a directional compass, locate the end of the magnet that attracts the North arrow, this end is inserted first into the coupler ( lubed w/2-4-C) to hold in place.
The magnet is held in by a bullet shaped plug, the rounded side should be facing out and is (lubed w/2-4-C) to hold it in place during installation.
I would look at the wiring and try to figure out which wire is for the senders and where it goes to. If they are still there and grounded, then they will cause the module to send an alarm even though there is no senders in the heads. Are there hole in the heads for the heat sensors? Should be one in each head near the top spark plug.

Thank You very Much for the help. If I could only find a part number for the bushing I could reolace It . I know it has to have some kind of bushing. I looked at the micro film at work and it does not show anything, i will look again. thank You Joe
