175 HP V6 Lower unit interchangeable with inline 6??

AS the title states....I have a 175 HP lower unit and was wondering if that will work on a 150 HP inline 6 motor. Vintage is the same...

The 175hp is the 1750 motor from 1977 and the 150HP inline 6 is from 1978. Will the lower unit bolt up? If so, is the gear ratio ok?
I've tried searching and am un-sure

Ricjard, I have asked this question several times, and gotten different answers. Measure the diameter of the gearcase. if they are the same (4-1/4"), I think you have a good chance.

I was told that to mount my '77 IL 6 gearcase on my '93 135HPV6, I needed to remove the front gearcase stud and elongate the stud holes in the gearcase. I never tried it.....
