OK GENTS, i have been reading the posts and have found it most helpful. However I still have no spark. . I have a early model 175 serial # 4301565... I have went through the wiring looks OK based on wiring diagrams.. I have removed the black andyellow wire and also disconnected the wiring harness to eliminate the ignition switch and control box. Still no spark on all plugs. I have put a meter on the yellow wires from stator have readings 350 to 500. What in the world do I do next

On some models there is a mecury switch that keeps the engine from running if it's tilted too far up. Make sure you disconnect it also. Do you have a DVA? You can't effectively test coils without one and you can't effectively test the switch box black/yellow voltage either.

The stator and trigger can be tested effectively with a ohm meter and the specs are in the manual but the spec's depend upon which stator you have. If it's origianl there should be sleves on the wiring and the sleves should have the part number on them.

Off the top of my head, I believe your stator should read 750-1400 ohms but don't trust that, go get the manual.. Get a Clymer shop manual if you can find one. The Seloc manuals will get you by if that's all you can find.

Remove all of the wires from the switchbox terminals that had the black and yellow (kill ) wire on it. There could be a tilt switch or even an aftermarket safety kill hooked up to it. Also, a fault in one module could kill the other. Removing all the wires might let it run on 3 so you know which module is bad.

What meter you use is critical. All specs are in peak voltage measurements, so you need a DVA (peak reading) meter.

If you have stator voltage and trigger voltage, and the kill circuit is open, it should spark, else the switchbox is dead.
