I am currently considering buying a used 2000 Sport Fish 1750 with a 3.0 Mercury I/O, the boat appears to be in good shape, but I am not sure about the idea of such a small I/O. I would like to fish the boat, but at the same time utilize the boat for some family fun of pulling some tubes or even a possible young skier. What kind of performance can I expect from this set up.

A few people have told me the 3.0 doesn't have enough power, a few people have told me its just fine. Depends on your expectations, if you want to load it up with 5, 200 pounders and ski behind it, it will be underpowered. A friend of mine has an 18 ft Sea Ray with the 3.0. He goes out with his wife (125 lbs), and two sons (200 lbs combined), and he says it has plenty of power for them.
