Hey just picked up this boat last summer just took it out a couple weeks ago and i loved it first boat and im hooked i think now. But the. Boat is pretty clean i have about a 1000 dollars into it i traded a quad for the boat interior is rough but expected that is ther any known issues withthese boats that i should keep my eye on. And also is there anyway to determine if the foam in the hull is waterlogged how low should the boat sit in the water anyway to tell without ripping it apart Any help would be appreciated thank you

Well if you take care of them they will last fine, but note the hull is very thin. As for water logging you would have to weigh it and compare to advertised weight for the 80's or drill a few test holes where the foam is and see. You could weight it at the end of summer and see if it heaver then after sitting over the winter.

Something like that. the bottom is like 1/4 - 3/8 thick. They have upped the quality lately but the early ones were a little on the flimsey side. Just be mindful and you will have a good time. The drive packages are the same if it's a bayliner or a 4winns or whatever, there is no difference in quality between brands there.

Seems everyone got a little stingy back then even the Sea Rays were kind so so for awhile.

So after that thin hull i went out and kinda looked over the hull this maybe a stupid question but did the boats have a clearcoat of some sort and paint cause i saw what looked like surface cracks in clearcoat or paint in some spots is this normal for the boats age or is this bad and i shouldnt take it out nemore

soft spots are rot. rot is not normal, and can indicate that you have issues with stringers, etc.

if you have recurring water after you drain it, your foam is most likely soaked.

wow. Now tell us, is it a outboard lol? If you have soft spots your foam under the floor is water logged. The cap I was told is where they pumped the foam in. I have the same boat but a 1700. Must be an inboard if it goes 31mph. Tach depends on what motor you have. ??

It is infact an outboard motor force 125 but the 31 mph was the same as i took it out the first time so i fell like i can get some more out of it i just have to play with the engine a little bit i think and see

A "springy" spot in the deck (as opposed to soft) may not necessarily be rot and could just be an area where the deck plywood delaminated from the stringer.

Pull up a piece of carpet and take a look to see if any evidence. Shouldn't be hard to tell

The hull may be thinner than boats built today but consider how many times it has hit the dock, trailer, branches, logs, rocks, etc. over the years.
If it was going to sink if someone kicked the side, it would have sunk long ago!

I don't think its the sides we are referring to UncleWillie. I've been working on my boat for the last 3 weeks with the ski locker cover off to air out and every time I step in there I can feel the hull flexing. I am 210 lbs and if I jump on it I can see my foot putting a good crack in the hull.
