I've been told to set engine height by putting the Av plate around 1" above bottom of boat. Its set there but the boat still hops before the trim gets up to the first mark on trim guage. Looking at the back of the boat its set right but if you look under the boat there is a 1' recess then another 3" drop and 2' wide. Is this considered the bottom of the boat where the av plate should be adjusted to. Thanks for any advice. I can only reach speed of about 38 to 40 before it starts bouncing and i'm pretty sure this 150 should reach well beyound that.

If it was mine I would raise it till it ventilates too much. When trimming out go slow and stop just before it hops. You may need to move weight around.
It hops for 2 reasons bottom shape and the motor raises the bow and cant hold it there.
Have you tried trimming all the way out?
It may get to a point where it can hold it there.
In my opinion the average boat should be run with as little trim as possible. When properly set up a boat shouldnt require a lot of trim to
plane right.if you are using trim to get the right boat attitude then youre using engine power to raise the bow instead of pushing the boat.Keep in mind Im talking the average runabout
and using extremes of trim to set up the boat.
