What length shaft do I need for a bow mounted trolling motor on my 18' SS? Not sure if it varies between boats based on main engine size and exactly how each sits in the water (bow to water line)? Mine won't be complete for a while so I can't measure my bow to water line distance but I'd like to keep my eye out for a good deal on a trolling motor in the meantime.

I can only guess Star but I would say at least 54" shaft. WE (I want one too) would have to pick from the salt water style trolling motors due to the length. Around where I am, finding one used is next to impossible, and new is $$$$$$

Thanks fshngo, I thought it would need to be a longer shaft version. I did some searching and if I'm correct, shortening the shaft, if needed, is not too complicated. Unless someone advises otherwise I'll look for something in the 54"-60" range.

Go with a 60" shaft.

Nothing is worse than trolling in chop and the motor pops out of the water.

My 60" Terrova AP is beautiful, better that the store had it new in the box for 50% off.
