I have a 1986 Force 125. I have been steadily working on it chasing problems with mixed results. When I solve one, another pops up. I recently changed another CDI box and when I cranked it, it idled fine but I noticed the flywheel was barely hitting the gear of the starter. It wasnt enough to interfere with the motor but it cant be good. Is the starter not pulling the gear back down far enough?. I tried to push it down but it seemed solid. Any help?

I would expect to see about 1/4 inch clearance between the bendix pinion and the flywheel ring gear. Check the spiral on the bendis to see if there is hardened greas on it prventing the pinion from dropping fully. Also check the small return spring under the top nut be sure it is there and it is not broken. Top nut is 5/8 and deformed thread so you need to hold the pinion to remove it.

your inertia drive mechanism should be oiled but not oily ...like a rifle barrel ...surplus oil attracts dirt and makes it stick...squirt with WD40 and spin the surplus off ( or parafin but not petrol..makes it rust ) . Pinion to ring gear clarance is 3 mm
