I would like to know if there is a kit out there to upgrade my twin cylinder outboards from point/breaker type ignition to a more positive electronic ignition. If so where can I find these jewels? I have a set(2) of 18 H.P. evinrude Lark outboards( I believe they are 1960 vintage) that were on an old thompson runabout thet I salvaged.
Thanks for any help

Re: 18HP Evinrude Lark Ignition upgrade

The 18hp Evinrudes are called "Fastwin". Larks are 30-35-40hp.

Aside from that, the original iginition setup on those motors is great. Keep it clean and it is super reliable. But it will give you grief if you try to run crummy old dried out and cracked coils.

OK, to partially answer the question, there is such a thing as an electronic module that replaces the points and condensers. It continues to use the same coils and wires and stuff. In my humble opinion, it is sort of a dumb "upgrade". But that's my opinion. I don't even know who sells them.
