Hey how are yall doin?
I have quite a few motors sitting around so I've been looking for a larger boat/trailer combo without a motor. I found a 1976 Grady White 19' in good shape with a 2000 trailer...The ad says cabin cruiser but if it's a 19 then most likely a cuddy. I'm going to look at it this weekend. Question is, right now I have a Merc 115 inline 6 in great condition and a evinrude 100 (v4) in great condition...would either of these be adaquate? Obviously, neither would set speed records but I don't want to move to a 150 unless I have to.
Anyone have a brochure from this year so I could check specs?
Thanks,
MJK

great thats what i hoped to hear!
only thing that bothered me is both my engines are pre 1980 so rated at the crank, so im guessin the merc(99ci) puts out 90 or so and the rude(92.5ci) maybe 85

The GW boat company is great at keeping older documents available to the public. Here is a link to their boat catalogs 1968 to present:

http://www.gradywhite.com/customer/catalogs/

They also have owner manuals from the late 80s on, but they are as useful as any other boat owner manual :)

Grady's are built like a tank and therefore require the HP of a tank. It's not about speed, its about moving a hull design that requires lots of HP to push.

I owned an Overnighter which is the 20' model. The boat was rated to 235HP. The base motor was a 150HP buts lots and lots where sold with 175HP and 200HP on the back. I had a 175HP on mine and wouldn't want to go any smaller.

I would imgaine that the 19' would be rated somewhere around 190 HP. If so I'd want 135-140 HP min. on the transom. I couldn't see putting much less on it.

NOT trying to steal the thread but while I have your attention... I am a complete newbie to boating looking for 1st fun + fish boat and there is a 90 19' GW DC Tournament w/ Johnson 175 for $10k range locally. Looking at the pics and going to the company catalog site fishingdan posted (thanks)... WOW, what a boat! Gotta be a good investment right? But, can you ski/tube with this boat or is pretty much a fishing boat only? Is it too much boat to start with? Thanks!

Re: 19' grady white power options

I have a 68 1119-c Striper cabin cruiser which is 19 feet. it had a 75 chrysler on it when i got it in 1975. It was a dog with that motor. I put a new 135 horse chrysler on it in 1976. It would pull skiiers easily and top out at 38. (pitot speedometer) I still have the boat, the motor lasted untill 2000, then trhew a rod. they say chryslers werent any good but that one went 24 years. and I have raised my children with it. I have seen 40 gallons of gas burnt in a day water skiing many times. My 40 year old boy was driving it when he was 6. I put a transom and stringers in it once about 15 years ago and that was that. I am now in the process of changing this boat to resemble a 50's chris craft. I have added a mercruiser inboard with a vee drive and will build a cedar or mahogany cap. I expect that by removing the cabin which weighs about 600 pounds, lowering the overall height by 3 feet and the larger motor that it will top 45. fingers crossed! thanks dan for the brochure info.

Re: 19' grady white power options

I went an looked at it, still don't know the weight but it is alot of boat for a 19' footer. He said its rated at 200HP, but often shipped with 99ci Merc 150s. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be happy with anything less than big v6 hanging on there, seems that a crank 99ci 115 would be struggling. We agreed that the boat, which is solid as a rock (but needs some cosmetic work) and yr 2000 trailer would go for 500$ if he hasn't sold it by this weekend.
If I decide to buy it, ill either put the 115 on and deal with low speeds until I get a bigger engine, or try to find a twin for the Merc 80 or evinrude 100.
