ok i have a 91 maxum with mercruiser 4.3 and alpha 1 outdrive. when i purchased the boat last year the prop was alittle damaged but not enough to worrie about. it ran well into 5500 rpms at wot with old prop. i bought a new 14.5-19 last week and im now at 6000 rpms at wot (which is max ) and buddie of mine sat in the back and could hear it airating. so my question is what prop should i change to because 6000 rpms is way too high and im guessing it should run in the 4400-4800 range. or am i wrong , someone point me in the right direction.

Very humble opinion here. First it should be 14.25 not 14.5. Next I would take it to 23 pitch. I noticed you said 4.3l which can be 190hp or higher. Then there is the difference with aluminum and stainless..I am assuming you have an aluminum.

Good luck.

.25 difference diameter won't make any difference. How old is your tach?

all gauges are new, and tach was also replaced. every marina i talked to said the 14.5 is what that motor/outdrive called for and they just automaticaly gave me a 19pitch without any questions.
