I bought a 19ft Silverline V-Hull a while back and it has turned out to be quite a project. The previous owner did some "upgrades" and now I have to tear it all out and start over. I have rempoved the floor he put in and also removed the origional floor and found that the stringers and ribs are totally rotted and need to be replaced. There was also water soaked into the foam between the stringers. I am in the process of tearing out the foam and stringers now. My question: What size fiber mat do I use on the deck to secure it? What do I use to secure the stringers to the hull? I want to make sure everything stays secure.

Re: 19' Silverline

First of all, pictures! Lots of them. Everybody on this forum loves to see detailed pictures of boat restoration projects.
Secondly, as a fellow silverline owner I welcome you.
Third, everything is attached using poly resin or epoxy, but you will figure that alll out by reading other threads on transom, deck and stringer replacement.
You're at the right place if you want to repair or restore your boat yourself.

Re: 19' Silverline

Thanks for the welcome. I have been taking pics since I started. I'll post them as I go. Yea I am an amature so any help is appreciated. Is there a space between where the stringer and the hull? I have been reading about it on line and there seems to be differing opinions in regards to stress cracks (hard points). Also, it came with a 50hp Merc. Is this underpowered? Most I have seen this size ranges from 90-115. Prob good for the ponds I am guessing but i want to take it out into open water so just looking ahead a little. Thanks again...

Yeah a 50 is underpowered for a 19' hull. I'd want a 70 minimum. Would prefer a 115.

More pics to follow but this is where I am at now. planning on removing the foam and stringers (lucky for me the ribs rotted away so I don't have to worry about that!).

Keep on digging! Been dere, dundat, and on the way back up now!

What year/model is yours? Mine came with no documentation, but it is between 1966-1968, Imperial/Rambler. silverlineboats.org has some really good reference material.

Keep up the good work! I'd def get some more power for it.

It is a 1972 Silverline-- something or other. Once I get it cleaned out of all the junk and prepped I will be on the upswing..only---I hope the transome is good.

Ugh. I see what I have ahead of me. I'm putting it off for a couple years as my boat has a solid transom and only one soft spot.
Could you keep track of your time so that I can get an idea of how long it will take me?
Stick with it, you will have a great boat when you're done.

Re: 19' Silverline

Started with the rebuild. The weather finally started to cooperate. Took out the center stringer and cleaned out most of the fiber holding it in. Found a combination of a good chisel and flat bar works best for the large pieces followed by a belt sander to smooth it out. My plan is to replace and secure the center stringer first and work out out towards the sides evenly so I dont loose the integrity of the hull. The transome looks good and solid. When I start to fiber the strngers back in shoud I use a fiber mat or a fiber mesh? I have been told to use 1 layer of mat and 2 layers of mesh. The origional appears to be only mat so I was wondering what is best.
