Did these ever come with bearing drip oilers? Was it an option or aftermarket maybe? My 1915 that I'm restoring has one on the top crank bearing. I have seen one other 1915 with the same oiler but most have the grease cup.

I want to keep it as original as I can but have to admit I like the looks of the oiler. Lots of hit and miss engines have them. The oiler fits perfectly next to the flywheel and in front of the gas tank once it's put back on. When I got the motor the nipple attaching the oiler was broken and I replaced it. So do I keep it or not? I have a parts motor with the grease cup. DSC_6323 (Large).jpg

While the oiler does look cooler, the grease cup was likely cheaper/easier and more durable. That is what my 1915 Ferro has as well.

What is the serial number on the motor? Can you also post some more pics, including the gear case? I will do some research.

The serial number is 51859, so early 1915. I have rebuilt the powerhead and am about 95% done with the restoration. The gas tank has taken awhile, a month or so, because I had to cut a hole in the back side to pound the dents out. It's now 100% straight after a lot of work. It has been painted and I'm applying several coats of clear and waiting for the decals to arrive. It had the broken drip oiler when I got it, I put the grease cup on it from my 1917 but I think I like the looks of the drip oiler better. I just wasn't sure if they ever came with them. I do have a picture of another 1915 for sale and it has the exact same drip oiler as mine.

Here is the photo of the other 1915 I found for sale that has the same exact drip oiler on it. This is what made me question whether they were an option, aftermarket or?? 263.jpg

A few more pics of my motor. I'm about 99% done with the resto. Waiting for the decals and finishing the prop. DSC_6361.jpgDSC_6359.jpgDSC_6378.jpgDSC_6381.jpgDSC_6348.jpg
