I'm currently looking at an item up for auction next Thursday. The motor is an old Evinrude from the early 40's. The model number is "4366", which according to the ID PDF page in the FAQ was manufactured in 1941-42.
Two questions if anyone would be so kind to share their wisdom:
If I were to buy this motor, it would be to get it running. Not to use daily, but to be a working piece of history. Are the parts that would possibly be needed to do this easy to get? And if not easy, are they available at all?
I've noticed that the pre-bidding has this motor at around $35-40 off the bat. I'm assuming I'll be bidding against a collector. What is the largest reasonable amount to pay for this? Assuming I won't be "using" it, but will be restoring it as much as possible, I will pay whatever is reasonable based on the probability of a motor like this coming around again sometime. If these are rare, I could see high dollar. Any ideas? What would YOU stop at?
Thanks a ton! I know some of this is just a matter of opinion, but so far I like a lot of the opinions on here! hahaha
