I just inherited an old 5HP SeaKing,9MGG9014A which I understand to have been made by OMC. The thing looks great, very clean. Anyway, I know this thing hasn't been started for a minimum of 20yrs. It's been sitting in storage at my Uncle's. So I want to get it running, but I'm not sure where to start. I Pulled the cord just to make sure it wasn't seized up, and it's not. I didn't want to do an more than that, as it did pull hard, what with having sat for all that time. I don't know if being about 15 degrees had anything to do with the hard pulling, but I didn't want to force it and be gouging up the cylinder walls. I can't pull it fast enough to check spark. I took out the plugs, and you can see LOADS of black gook around the plug hole. I don't think it was ever de-carbed.
So first steps in getting an old beauty running again?

nocko,

More than likely the water pump impeller is the reason for it pulling over so hard. It woill need to be replaced.

A little fogging oil in the spark plug holes won't hurt.

The carb will need to be rebuilt, I'm sure. The fuel pump too.

Once running, i would decarb it. The oil used 20 years ago was not that great.

Yep, wht DJ said. And:

Be sure to use a 24:1 fuel mix with unleaded regular gas and TC-W3 oil.

Good luck. :)

No need to rebuild the fuel pump. It doesn't have one as its probably gravity fed from the built-in tank.
