I need to change the impeller on my old Merc Mark 7. I have removed the old impeller, but I also need to change the seal behind the impeller. I'm not sure how to remove the impeller housing. Does it unscrew or just pull out. If it pulls out, do you us a puller and the two screw holes in it?
Any help would be great. Thanks.

The easiest way to get the waerpump cartridge out is to pull the entire propshaft out. Clamp the propshaft in a vice in wooden blocks. Heat the area just in front of the pump housing with a propane torch. Gently tap the housing forwards with a non-metallic hammer (wooden, hard rubber or plastic) and it should pull the entire assembly right out. Take note of any shims, etc. and make sure they go back in the same way. Also, there is a top and bottom to the pump cartridge, so mark the top before removing by scribing a mark or something.
- Scott

Thanks Chinewalker. Since I still had the lower unit on the motor, I just put 2 10/24 bolts in the holes in the waterpump cartridge then used a crowbar and hammer to tap up on the bolt heads. With a little heat and tapping back and forth it came right out. Got the new one in and it works great.
