1950's Naden Boat Paint

Here is my 1950's Naden 14' Aluminum Boat that was passed on from my grandparents. I replaced the benches and painted along with the gunwales . The Gunwales are Oak and were previously replaced by my uncle along with the Transom and were still in great shape. I primed with rustolium marine topcoat paint then with the best exterior latex from Menards. The only problem with the latex paint is that it scratches very easily. Any suggestions as to what I can do to protect the finish ?

I think you'll find this Method and Paint to inexpensive and WAY MORE durable...Paint Your Boat with Tractor Paint...Say What!!!

You will need to sand off the Ext. Latex paint to get good adhesion. This method is Oil Based Paint and it doesn't like water based paint as a base coat or primer.

the latex would peal off as soon as the boat was put in the water.

you need to prime with a zinc primer, then top coat. the topcoat as a primer will not stick to the aluminum.

Do you think there are enough registration tags on it yet? :happy: I see you are using some rags or cloth to keep from wearing the paint on the cross strap. Maybe you could built some wooden pieces to slide over the top of the rail with a groove or channel made into them to hold the strap and not wear on the paint. A little "C" type wooden channeled piece would work. JMHO
