I need to know why my 1952 or 1953 model#1062707 TD28 5 HP motor floods gas out the top of the carbs? As soon as i open the vent cap and open the gas valve, gas comes out these two little holes in the top of the carbs. The motor runs but the gas still comes out unless im running wide open.

Howdy, Jim.

Your carburetor float is not closing the inlet needle. It may be sticking, sinking, or broken.

Good luck. :)

Hi Jim
I agree with JB. You will need to be carefull with that float. They are made of cork. There is a little spring wire that holds the float to the shaft of the inlet valve. This spring wire (clip) is attached to the cork float with a tiny screw. These items my be fragile upon disasembly. I you would like a picture, post your email address and I will try to send you one. Do not take screw out. Carefully spred clip and slide shaft out from top to bottom.

You need a manual, Jim.

Someone on here has a tagline that reads: "Anyone who works on an outboard motor without a manual has a fool for a mechanic." . . . or something like that. Don't take it personally, but it is very true.

:)
