I am in the process of rebuilding the old girl. I have replaced the coils, condensers and plug wires. I have replaced the impeller and the gromet for the water tube and now I'm coming down the final stretch.

Last night after I tested it in a barrel ( runs great) I tilted it up and noticed gas pouring out of the carb area. It stopped when I put it back down or closed the fuel valve.

I have a manual and can rebiuld the carb if it's necessary.

Archer,

Rebuilding the carb. is precisely what you need to do. It is SIMPLE. The parts are available and cheap.

If it has a cork float, replace that too.

Does yours have a screen in between the carb and the air silencer?

Archer,

I don't claim to be an expert, but most carbs have a vent hole to allow atmospheric presure to the fuel in the bowl. It is air through this vent hole that causes the fuel from the bowl to be pushed up into the venturi. The venturi is at a lower presure caused by vaccum from the engine. I agree it is best to rebuild the carb, but keep in mind it is mormal for a carb to leak if it is turned on its side or top.
