Hi Folks!

I'm attempting to replace the prop on our 1954 Evinrude Big Twin 25.

Once the cotter pin, hub nut, thrust pin and washer were removed, the old prop came off with some force required.

However, the new Quicksilver prop (3100T) simply does not want to slide onto the shaft. The configuration looks right. It's just really, really, really tight.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Dave

Is the shear pin hole mushed up around the edges? Smooth it off with a file.

Quicksilver prop for a 1954 Bigtwin?

Yup. It's marked 3100R on the box, but 3100T on the prop itself.

It's the only one I could find. Do you know of another?

Thanks!
Dave

Ummm, Quicksilver is a Mercury parts brand. I have never seen a Quicksilver prop made for an OMC. Probably why it won't fit... Look for something from OMC, BRP or Michigan...

I just looked the prop up and darned if there isn't one for OMC 25hp, 1951 to 1955. The photo shown on the page I looked at is wrong because it shows a thru-the-hub exhaust type prop, but the written description is correct.

You can also look at Michigan Match from Michigan Wheel. The available selection in regard to pitch is becoming limited, but they probably still have a few bacuse the same prop fits a variety of OMC motors (28hp, 30hp, 33hp, 35hp, 40hp) through the mid 1970s.

As was said earlier, the drive pin hole is probably raised around the edges. It happens. File 'em down and your prop will probably go on just fine.

Lots of props that will fit your outboard on ebay, including NOS ones. Usually, they go pretty cheap, so you can get a spare and experiment with pitch at pretty low cost.
