Hi
I have a 1954 Rude bigtwin 25 I'm trying to get running it has a warped flywheel, Its the electric start model 25916-1193 the fly wheel on it is part# 580177 I was told it was changed to 580336? anyway I thought there might be a Johnson version, Lark, Gale etc. that might have a different part number that might also fit, any information greatly appreciated.

Just curious kodibass, how do you know the flywheel is warped?

Re: 1954 Bigtwin 25 hp help

The fellow i got the motor from said it dropped from a shelf that gave way in a old shed, the hood and pull start were missing, when i turn it over with the electric starter it wobbles real bad. so i had a flywheel from a electric start 35 bigtwin i bolted that one on and it spins true? i put the original back on and it wobbles,, so i'm thinking if it were the crank both would wobble. I might be way off base here.. the part numbers are different for the flywheels so i thought i should try and get the right one. any thoughts, suggestions very much appreciated, i'm kind of lost hear. thanks' kb

Yea, I believe you're right about what you're saying. That was a pretty good test. Fortunately, the crank is still fine. One other trick to try is taking a dial indicator to it, with it mounted in a lathe and turn it by hand. This will tell you exactly how bad off it is.

If the recoil starter fits the 35hp flywheel, and the starter obviously works on it, I'd keep the 35hp flywheel on it and not worry about it.
I might even have an extra '54 flywheel for it. PM me.
