Wanting to convert my 7.5 hp short shaft into long shaft. I have the 20 inch drive shaft, shift rod and 5 inch housing extension. The water tube is unavailable. Can I extend the original short shaft water tube with some kind of flex tubing?:

I doubt if flexible tubing will prove to be satisfactory. I think assembling it with a flexible bit may be difficult. I think I would be looking at extending it with a piece of suitable sized copper tube. Maybe cut and solder in a length part way up.

Better maybe make a complete new tube. Is the top flared or is it just plain? Simple if it is plain both ends provided you cam match the OD, but not difficult even if you have to flare the end

You might try some of these places too and see if they might have one available. Also, try the AOMCI website and post an ad. If not, then try what Vic.S suggested.

Did you ever complete the conversion to long shaft? I have a 1954 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5 long shaft that I'm trying to convert into a short shaft! Did you run into any difficulties doing the conversion?
