I have the opportunity to purchase this motor for very cheap, from the pics it looks complete and in great condition, although it won't run the owner says it isn't locked up, for cheap I mean under $100. Is it worth getting, it there any collectors value to owning this motor?

Thanks

Re: 1954 Evinrude 7.5 Purchase

Without hearing it run, buying it would be a crap shoot. I have a 1955 7.5, and they are great little engine's. They are an all bushed engine, so they won't tolerate a lean oil mix. A bad rod, or wrist pin bushing is not uncommon. Thats why I would want to hear it run. If it has a bad rod, or crank, you have a replica of an outboard engine. Have him make it run, or drop the price.

As stated it doesn't run so it's bought for restoration purposes, I guess my question is it worth putting money into. From what I have read elsewhere 50's+ motors aren't really collectors items.

Unless you get into the old true racing engine's, I don't think any old outboard is really worth all that much money.

No collector value. If it runs good it is worth $150-$200. If it doesn't run it is about $50 worth of parts.
