I have a noise coming from my lower unit and it feels like I hit something while going on plane. After this noise everything is just fine until I go on plane again. Idling around no noise. Does anyone have any idea what it could be. It isn't the prop it does it no matter what prop I have on it. Everything else is working fine. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem?

can you describe the noise? from the description of " hitting something" it sounds like the classic clutch dog issue, but could be the shift rod coupler not quite in place.

Classic description of a worn out clutch dog. It is coming out of gear, rotating 1/2 revolution and slamming back into gear. Very common indeed. The longer you wait to fix it, the more it is going to cost ya.

Well I finally had time to open up my transmission on my 1954 QD15. Looking at the Clutch Dog I could see a little wear on the forward side. Reverse side looked unused. So I turned it around so the reverse side of the dog is now the forward side. I put in new seals and closed her up. Went out fishing yesterday and my problem is gone. I'm thankful for everyones input. My 54 is running like a dream.
