Hello,

I keep coming back to this forum whenever I start googling my QD-15, so time to join.

Working on a 1954 Johnson Seahorse QD-15 10hp.

I am looking for a seal kit for the lower unit. I managed to get my hands on a pdf of the original parts list for this motor, and I seem to be able to cross most of the parts numbers listed to replacement parts available today. I would really love to get my hands on a kit, just to simplify and hopefully reduce cost. All those nickels add up pretty fast when buying the parts individually. So if anyone has found what kit fits this lower unit, would you share the part number with me please? Sierra stops at 1957 as I'm sure ya'll know.
Any advice on this project is welcome as well.

Thanks in advance!

The bushing in the connecting rod small end has been know to wear out .-----Causes a rattle at idle.----Inspect for that by removing bypass covers.

if BOATS Don't have them check with the folks at VINTAGE OUTBOARD .COM or TIM's outboard

dump the oil and if it is not contaminated Don't reseal for nothing let the oil sit 2 hours in a glass jar. if you have water it will show up… on the bottom.

There is no seal kit for that year because the prop shaft seal is a different O.D. size than newer motors. Some aftermarket vendors make up kits themselves, but I don't know who they are.

if you measure the shaft OD and seat ID & depth maybe you can find something equivalent….I recently replaced a 303345 prop seal with an SKF equivalent . The seal was not stainless or bronze but I coated the outer surface with rubber ciment (silicone would do also) . The inner surface won't rust being is oil all the time

Spaghetti seal is available in bearing shops
