1955 evinrude 15 horse

put new impeller in lower unit,now it wont go back into place,shifters in same gear water tube lined up,but driveshaft wont go the last 1/4 inch to let me bolt it back up,put new o-ring on drive shaft and lubricated with greese,whats sticking?pleas help dont want to force anything,are you there FR?

Have you turned the flywheel to line up the splines on the driveshaft to the crankshaft?

yea... sometimes turning the engine a little will help to line things up... get someone to turn it slowly while you try and work the lower unit on.

or, you might just be able to turn the prop if you have the whole lower assembled

ive also put the gear in place via the shift rod in the lower unit and slowly rotaed it to get it lined up,i know it was in the hole properly lined,as the grease on the shaft was pushed down on the splines to within 1/4 inch of making it be together
