I am new to iboats, I found an outboard in the corner of my cousin's old shop that was on a 13 foot plywood boat we used when I was a kid . it has been in storage since the early 70's I brought it home after my cousin passed away. I put it in a drum of water oiled the cylinders , filled the carb with fuel. It started and ran fine after all these years, I decided to go through it. new water pump , carb kit seals etc .I did find a problem with the bushing on the driveshaft bearing plate , I didnt find the bushing in a parts listing for the engine, is it serviced as part of the bearing plate? does someone have one they can sell me ? I think I can make the part on the lathe if I cant find one , it seems to be the thrust adustment for the pinion so it will take some fitting I suppose. Help would be much appreciated . I am thinking of building a little jon boat to put this motor on when I get it restored

The bushing is cast in place.---No it is not the thrust adjustment for the pinion gear !----Bore the bushing out and press in a new one.----Have a good look at the shock absorber that if broken will damage that housing.

Actually the part is available new at a dealer or web merchant for a mere $128.00 or so.

That damage is caused by a broken/expanded shock absorber, as previously mentioned

thanks for the information , I have a better Idea now of how that is set up. the shock absorber is frozen doesnt move, I looked inside, the spring appears to be intact. I put it back in the housing, there is about .120 of an inch end play so it would seem it is not extended as it was when the damaged occurred. I am thinking of making a one piece bushing from some bearing stock instead of the two piece bushing inside a bushing with the DD insert(locks the bushing against the shaft) as original, where the bushing turns inside the other bushing instead against the shaft.
