Hi guys.
I pulled the head (finally) and found a couple of surprises.
Bottom cyl has some scratches. Cant be happy to find these but I recall its 57 years old - for crying out loud.
Head gasket looks really crappy. Question - can these be "read" to tell if there was some failure in the gasket?
The gasket surface almost looks like there was some gasket sealer used at one time.
I recall that the consesus is that NOTHING should be used (other than an actual head gasket).
I procured a glass cutting board and some 400 grit wetsand paper. Wow. Works best with actual water on it.
Hope the wife does not see this post about the cutting board...........
