I just bought an old aluminum 12 footer and dragged the 1956 Evinrude 7.5 out of the basement and using the 2 year old gas in the tank hitched it up and after a couple of tugs it started up. Ran ok, but it was very windy so I figured I'd get back to it on a better day.Next day, I filled up the tank with some fresh gas and took it around the pond, at first the engine performed terrific, but then I started fooling with the hi and low adjustments and never got it going as well. I decide to remove both needles and shoot some seafoam carb cleaner in there and put it back together. Well now it runs crummy and I'm not sure what I've done wrong. I'd love to see a parts layout, or get a basic idea of how many turns out I should make the adjustments, I looked around for helpful posts, but got overwhelmed fast.

Appreciate any help.

Re: 1956 Evinrude 7.5

For your carb adjustments see the FAQ about setting the carb. The intial settings are 1.5 turns on the low and 1 turn on the high. I can almost gaurantee it will run crappy at those settings so you will have to read the FAQ.

You may need a carb rebuild since it obviously sat for quite some time. Shooting carb cleaner into the needle ports does nothing, but give you a warm and fuzzy feeling of accomplishment.

PM me your email address and I'll send you the parts manual for your motor.

Thanks,

Thats a good starting point on the settings. My guess is the carb needs to be cleaned. I will PM my email.
