alright guys i am in need of a boat exorcist because i have done everything i can to this thing and for some reason it doesn't get gas to go through the carb. First off i have rebuilt the water pump, recoil and carb. I have tried starter spray down the spark plugs but i only get a momentary start and it shuts off. I have noticed that when i connect the old gas tank with new fuel/oil mixed in i get a high whistle noise from the air side of the connection and the tank becomes vapor locked. so is it the gas tank/ lines or the carb thats causing my problem???

Do you have the original 2 line tank on your motor. Those tanks use pressure to push fuel so is it in good shape and holding pressure?

yea i have the original tank that you have to push the button on top of the tank till its gets hard and it holds pressure really well i can pressure it without it being connected to the motor and release it just fine by taking the cap off though it sometimes shoots fuel out of it

i also forgot that i did rebuild the carb had this problem pulled the carb back off and the float was completely dry it seems as if the fuel doesnt get to the carb even though the glass bowl is full

What happens when you disconnect the fuel line to the carburetor and pump it? If no gas there just work your way back to the tank disconnecting things until you get a good flow. My guess is that the connector at the motor, fuel line inside the hood, or the strainer is plugged.

Do you still have the metal fuel filter in the fuel bowl? They have a habit of plugging up and not letting fuel into the bowl.

Operating the button on the tank does NOT pressurize the tank.-It pumps fuel to fill the carburetor.---When motor starts crankcase compression is used to put pressure on the fuel.

The glass bowl usually isn't full. Think I would try it without the filter -- careful with the bowl seal (may want to use a little permatex around the rim). If the gasket isn't complete, will need to replace.

See #5 and #6. Idle passages are at the top of the carb, with access under the domed fitting (replacement fitting in your carb kit). Should have been opened up when carb was disassembled.

Try adjusting the needles. Set the h.s. needle at about 1/2 open, and the l.s. needle at about 1 turn open. See if the engine starts and runs. If so, let it warm up and adjust for best running -- one test is shifting in and out of gear without stumbling or stalling.
