I have a 1956 10hp seahorse and it seems that when I am in the forward gear that it feels almost like the prop is "hitting a log". I did some searching and found these sounds like a wrom clutch dog. Here are a couple of pics that I took of one of the gears and the clutch dog? Do you guys think this is enough wear to be causing me problems? Also where can I get new gears and a new clutch dog?

try twincity outboards. if you thnk you can get by with the gears you can reverse the clutch dog i thing. putting the worn side to reverse where there is less stress. i think, some the dogs and gears were matched sets. i will be interesting for me to watch the responces. i have a 55' 15 that slips, rarely, so i baby it. no idle to wot.

Twin City's a good source. So is Engine, Blade & Prop in Milwaukee. Or you can look for a 55-58 10 hp lower unit or gear case/gears on the auction site. They show up quite often for not much bux. Next time you post pix, knock them down to 4X6 at 72 or 96 dpi...makes it much easier to see specially on websites.

Just from the pics....it doesn't look like the lobes are all that bad......worn yes but but "I've seen worse", to coin a phrase. I would ask if your sure the shift rod was all the way into the connector...upper and lower rods.

Would holding the gear shift handle down make the "log hitting" stop?

If all was correct, I would just replace the clutch dog.
