1957 5.5 Johnson Fuel in Pulse Line

When I purchased this motor, it already had been converted from a pressure tank to a pump. The motor runs but the pump was leaking fuel out of the installed Briggs and Stratton style fuel pump. Thinking that the diaphram was damaged, I replaced the fuel pump, but the problem persisted.

I then wanted to check the pulse line to verify the direction that the fuel was moving. Using clear hose lines, I temporarily setup the pulse line with loops to catch any fuel that may get in the line (see picture). This revealed that the fuel is coming from the pulse line, not the fuel pump.

How is this happening and how can I fix it? I did see somewhere that this may be caused by a head gasket leaking between the cylinders. Does that make sence? My compressing seems low, but equal (60 using pull start).

HiTrim - I can. What are you interested in, the temp setup with the clear lines?

where is the pulse line from.... are you pressure nipple behind the carb ?? better check the routings

IN ====> is from the single line side connector
OUT=>>>> goes to carb inlet nipple
PULSE===> from a pulse source ( converted nipple port)
