Just like the title says. Runs great. Starts half pull. As soon as I bring the throttle the least bit lower then start it stalls. Any ideas?

Well to start dont worry too much about the orientation of that collar with "START, SHIFT, etcc" on it. It is just a guide at best.

Perhaps idle too low? Low speed needle too rich? Points timing not dead on>? Carb gummed? A few things could prevent a low, perfect idle. Hard to guess without more info or an inspection.

Hightrim. Thanks for the response.

The carb has been rebuilt, no difference.

Not sure what you mean by idle being too low. I have an adjustment for low and high speed, and I have followed the standard guides for setting them. Doesn't seem to matter, as soon as I get the least bit below start it cuts off. Nor does it run rough or struggle, just cuts off.

The throttle indicator is keyed, and the throttle range of motion follows it perfectly.

I have not checked the points yet. I will do that today.

check for a wire with insulation worn off getting grounded when the throttle position is changed

as mentioned ....dont pay much attention to the markings on the tiller. whats important is, will it idle slow and smooth, will it go from slow idle to wot with no issues? ( i have a 57 5.5, that idles so slow i wonder how it even stays going, and the tiller grip mark is no where near the "slow" setting. )
