1957 7.5hp Evinrude Fleetwin Fuel Tank Problem

I have a 1957 7.5hp Evinrude Fleetwin with the old style fuel line that has a gas and air line. I have noticed that when the gas tank is higher in the boat, the motor is more responsive and much faster. Any reason why this happens and is there something wrong?

Sounds like you have an air leak somewhere and the tank is not pressurizing correctly.
The better engine performance is probably due to the engine being gravity fed fuel when the tank is higher.
