I have a 7.5 evinrude that I just can seem to get to stay running until it warms up. It just had a new ignition in 02' and the compression in both cylinders is 95lbs. I was thinking fuel but once it warms up its good to go. Is this a sign of the ignition going. I am thinking coils but not real sure.

If the compression and spark are good, try opening the low speed jet 1/4 turn and see what happens.

Make sure the points are perfectly clean and adjusted properly. Were the coils replaced back on 02 as well? If everything in the ignition system is perfectly set right, those old OMC's are very responsive.

yes the coils were also replaced. I did go into the ignition and found that the points seemed to be pretty bad looking. I did file them up but have yet to try again.

yea, with these old OMC motors, if everthing in the ignition sytem is set up perfectly, then they work good. They'll have enough spark to send a bull elephant flying across that parking lot, but too many people don't know how to set them up right. One other big thing is, setting up the plug wire with the new coil, which is another common flubb up. Remove the armeture plate completely and "recondition" the ignition system and you'll be fine. It can't be done "half ***"

Recheck the gaps if you filed, may not be .020 anymore.
