I have a 1957 18hp Fastwin I think. There is not a model number that I can find on it. There is a plate that has a serial number and I have removed the cover and there is a silver disk that also has the serial number. I am trying to get a rebuild kit for the carb and the pressure fuel tank works by the way so I will use it. From what I under stand there are more than one carb that came out on these engines so I need the model number. Where else should I look.

sierra part 18-7043 is the carb kit.. available right here on iboats: Evinrude Carburetor Kits

This kit will not come w/float. You'll need to get one from BRP (any Johnson/Evinrude marina/shop). Part # 396514 is the float.

Good luck!

Hi bargainbin. Welcome to iboats. Cool old motor you've got there. One of the all time greats. Here are some handy links that will walk you through a tune-up from top to bottom, including a carb rebuild. Your motor uses the older model carb with adjustablt Hi and Lo speed needles, whereas models made after 1959, or so, have a fixed Hi speed needle with an adjustable Lo speed needle. You can get a rebuild kit and virtually any other routine items right here at iboats for about $20 each. Holler if you get stuck.

Maintaining Johnson E & FD Serie
5.5 HP Evinrude Johnson 1954-1954 Carburetor Tune-Up Procedure (carb rebuild link for a slightly different model, but all of the steps are virtually the same for your motor.)

The first 4 or 5 digits in the serial number are the model number.
I have a '57 Johnson 18hp, It's one of My favorites.
It pushes My 16' jon boat at a good speed then it will run slow enough to troll with.
Their great motors and easy to work on.
Good Luck with Your motor.

The only numbers on it are 15020 08806 and none of that seems to be a model number.
