My first outboard project, got it for $40, was told it had a bad coil. Replaced the usual ignition parts, rebuilt the carb. Has clearly been sitting a long time but is in decent shape. Started right up once I decided to install the float rightside up. But no water at all coming out, so shut it down.

Mud daubers had pretty much completely clogged the exhaust. Did everything I could to clean out the bottom with water and air. Still no water flow. So I pulled the gear case off to check the impeller. It seemed to be in good condition, no damage, very flexible. Maybe already replaced. But the inlet screen and passage were plugged. Cleaned everything out. Reassembled, still no water flow. No more ideas.

I think there was a hairline crack on the impeller housing discharge, but my glasses could not be located. Also, the grommet looked a little worn. But I would think I would at least have some water flow. Also, I read that sometimes the bonding between the impeller and hub is an issue, but I don’t think that was the case here. Any ideas before I pull it apart again this weekend? Thanks in advance.

Maybe you need more water in your bucket.-----Water must be well above the pump.

Yep, it was water depth. Lots of water flow. Thanks for your help, guess that was dumber than the upside down carb float.

Runs great, can’t wait to try it out. Those mixture screws are a bit of a pain. I read the FAQ on that but it was more like fiddle with them until you’re happy. Is there a trick to making those needle stop/tensioner things work correctly again? They’re kind of bent .
