1957 Fleetwin: Fuel flows out of the carburetor when motor is tilted up.

I've got a 1957 7.5 hp Fleetwin (model 7522).

When I tilt the motor up while the gas tank is connected to the motor and pressurized, sometimes fuel will flow out of the motor coming from somewhere around the carburetor. I'm not sure exactly where the fuel is coming out at because I'm usually too concerned with trying to put the motor back down to stop it from soaking everything in the back of my boat with fuel.

I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem before. Is this a common occurrence with this motor? I do plan on rebuilding the carburetor this winter when I'm not using the motor as much. I've owned the motor for about a year, so I figured it probably needs to be done. I'm hoping that will solve the problem.

I did clean out the sediment bowl and I didn't see a gasket between it and the carburetor. I'm wondering if that could be the problem. I never have any problems with it when it's running.

Do you use a two-line, pressurized tank or is it converted to fuel pump? Either way, sounds like a gravity-induced leak.

If it only happens when you tilt the motor up then I'd say its normal. You only have to get the needle off its seat a bit to get fuel flow. As long as there is pressure in the tank it will push gas to the carb.

There is a gasket for the sediment bowl (BRP 303122). Yours is probably stuck to the carb.

I use the pressurized tank the the double line hose. Thanks for the info.
