I have a 1957 Johnson RDE 19 that I am brining back to life, I have redone the carb, replaced all fuel lines, tank has pressure as all gaskets and seals done. No leaks in fuel system, nearly 130 psi compression in both holes. It idles perfectly after a couple of adjustments, but is bogging through midrange and WOT. It will eventually rune reflect at WOT, but if I slow it has issues almost like it is running on one cylinder, but both are firing. I have replaced the coils, points and condensers as well. If I was to describe it, it feels like it is getting way to much fuel at mod range and slower speeds and then it takes a few seconds at WOT to use the excess fuel then it runs perfectly. It has also died once as i came off plane plane and was very hard to start. I appreciate any input. If you require more info, I will make sure you get it.

I set the high speed out one full turn to start with, I tried adjustments, and it made a little difference, but not much. Still rough as hell then magic at WOT then dies coming off plane and hard to start. When it starts idles great.

It also appears that the cam follower is hitting well before the start mark, would this cause issues in any throttle position above idle?

By "start mark" do you mean the mark on the cam? On that motor, there is a pointer just to the left of the follower (roller) and as that pointer hits the mark on the cam, the throttle butterfly in the carb should just start to open. As you advance the throttle, the mag plate will hit a stop at about 2/3 throttle and a spring mechanism on the throttle (port side of engine) will flip and force the follower away from the cam. At this point, there is a rod with an adjustable "barrel" on the port side and that takes over. It should just hit the stop when the mag plate is advanced as far as it will go. As you continue advancing the throttle, that rod will continue opening the butterfly until the throttle is fully advanced. At this point the butterfly should be fully open. Adjust that little barrel on the rod to make it so.

Ok nobody laugh at this one.........when I rebuilt the carb I set the welch plug in a kinda thought I did not tap it flat enough, so I made a mental note to go back and set it in properly, which never happened. So I hit some chop and the plug dislodged, leaving the low speed circuit wide open to the air. This was the issue with the no start. Resolved and now running.
