New boat owner here. I have 57 johnson 5.5 cd 14 that appears to be leaking gear oil from the weep hole at the top of the gear case. I degreased the motor before some heavy use on the 4th of July, which probably allowed me to see the leak. At first I thought the leak was just carbon deposits from the engine working hard. I wiped the oil from the weep hole area and checked back 15 minutes later to see a small drop of oil creeping from the hole. I poked a small stick into the hole and when I pulled it out a drop of water fell out of the hole and the stick had milky oil on it. I’ve attached a picture with the hole in question. Not sure how to proceed and hoping someone here can help me

Is water getting into your gear oil ?-----Leakage from that hole could be considered normal.------Oil that is mixed with the gas has to go somewhere.------I can suggest that you pressure test the gearcase to see if there are any leaks.

beardboat, relax. That ain't gear oil. It's oil that you put in the gas, and is normal. Especially noticed when running in a tank, which it looks like you have been doing.

That is not to say you don't have a gear oil leak,, but that is a separate and unrelated issue if you do.

Thanks for the quick responses. The “leak” in question is above the gear oil fill plug so I should have thought about it for a minute before freaking out. Just drained the gear oil and besides being old it looks fine.
