Hey folks,

Just picked up a '57 Javelin Model# RJE-19 Serial# 1630077. Just wanted to start a dialog with anyone who owns one similar. I have a bunch of questions, so if you have the patience, please met me know.

Thanks,

I would just go ahead and ask the questions. Lots of folks on here are familiar with the older motors....

Questions regarding my 57 Javelin 35hp

1. Where would be my best source for parts online??

2. Electrical receptical on Starboard side of motor. Is that for ignition and starter switch?? Can I get the mate to that receptical to wire in my current ignition system??

3. Can I update the fuel system? Currently has the obsolete pressure type system.

4, Are there any problems individual to this motor that I should be aware of?

Thanks for the help. I'll ask more if I get any interest.

Re: 1957 Johnson Javelin

A 57 Javelin is a sought-after Classic and you would do well to keep it original. That means keep the pressure system and don't skimp on fixing it. There are wiring harnesses out there, you just gotta find them. They were used for several years. A juntion box goes with it. There's a place in Oklahoma City that Ol Red keeps mentioning over at fiberglassics.com. Also try sea-way marine in Seattle for NOS parts.

They are great motors, subject to misuse and abuse and wear and tear just like any other. But parts are plentiful to keep it going.

i run '55 15 hp rude every week. i use laingsoutboards.com Jim is great to deal with, and doesn't rip you on shipping. there is also twin citymarine at tcmarine.com keep the fuel system original, i've seen to many engines ruined by messing with the system. it's work 50 years why change it. laings, has rebuilt kits for the tanks. you wil have to run it in a barrel or test tank, as muffs don't generally fit.
