I have a 1957 evinrude lark with what i am told the 1958 electric plug on it...did they change the plug halfway though the production year...Model 25532..I was told the 57 had 5 plugs and the 58 had 6 due to the key start feature..

58 harness should work with a 57 - 58 had a kill circuit by turning key off. 57 did not (you choked it to kill the motor). I believe changes came midway in the production year. They used up the 57 parts the first half of 1958. The later models also went to fuel pumps and thermostats.

Yeah i am sure it is a 1957...does the fact that it has the 58' plug make it more valuable...what i mean easier to make run because i heard that the 57' plug only was produced in 1957 for half a year.

He's talking about the wiring harness for these motors - it fit into a rectangular receptacle on the starboard side of the motor.

To the OP, if you have this item and it is in usable condition, you are quite lucky. They are prone to crumbling at the molded plug in which case they are pretty much useless.

Don't have the actual plug...just the motor itself the guy i got it from let the boat rot out and chucked it..
