I purchased a 1958 Starcraft Speedster (photo below) primarely for the motor that was on the boat. I had no idea what the boat was other than an aluminum v-hull. I contacted Starcraft to find out the weight capacity and max hp as the C.G. plate was missing from the boat. I was blown away when told it was rated up to 25 hp and after some searching on this forum I have learned more about the original Speedster.

My primary question concerns the bow deck that came on the Speedster, mine is missing. Was the original deck aluminum or plywood? Can anyone post or email me a photo showing how the deck and siderail trim meet and are attached?

EDIT
The twin 9.9's off shore was a gag photo but would make an interesting boat!

...you joke about the twin engines but I'm working on twin 1964 Mercury 3.9's for my Starcraft Jet Star.

Any Starcraft owners or experts out there who can answer the bow deck question?

Valley Boater,
All of the Starcraft's I have seen have had aluminum decks on the bow. My boat has an aluminum rub rail the joins the two, I will get some close ups posted. Sorry I cant help with the Speedster question directly.

Speedster 1957.jpgHey VB, BearwoodBoats here,,I have the 1957 Speedster I found last year..The bow plate is missing on mine but it was aluminum with a double star design like the aft stars design whish I only have the right side looking from the aft.... Starcarft in those years molded aluminum sheet over a wood for the haul that hold the steering colum and windshields...For the gunrails or gunails I used White Pine AA grade from Homedepot Per cut 1x2x6 and the plained down to the old piece of railing that was left under the handles area. But next time I redue the gunrails I was use 1x2x12 times four so there is no joints were the to joined on mine...Ank Questions Ping me Aug1.JPGAug 2011.JPG
