Hi all,
I finally got this old engine running and mounted on the boat. I put it in the water and took off and set my low and high idles and the thing ran like a champ for 2-3 hours. really ran great. When we started to head back I went to take off and it started to slip allmost like the prop was spinning on the shaft. At lower rpms it will still move but as soon as I start to raise the rpms it tarts to slip again. I checked the shear pin and it was ok. I drained the lower unit to see if there was any metal in the oil and it looked clean. I really thought the problem was in the lower end so I pulled it off and split the case. Everything in the bottom half looked fine. No metal chips at all. The drive shaft splined on bothe ends look fine with no wear. I'm out of ideas. An thoughts? I'm not sure what the drive shaft splines into the engine but that is the only thing I can think off. Is there some sort of coupling there? Let me know you thoughts...... Thanks for your help...

I was just reading a bunch of posts and some one else had this same problem and someone mensioned to check for a spun prop, so I just went outside and removed the prop and I was able to get the inner part of the prop in the vise and without a ton of effort I could get the prop to spin in the bearing.... Think this is the problem???? ....

I was just wondering how I figure out which prop I need. Any one have a part number? I'mthinking that these props must be simialr to the Johson props as almost all the other parts are the same. i would love to find a parts diagram for this engine if anyone has one or know of a place i can get one. Thanks again for all your help.....

Original prop was part number 591920, no longer available. But you are correct, it takes the same prop offerings as Evinrude and Johnson 25, 28, 30, 33, 40hp motors of the 1960's. I don't know the diameter and pitch of 591920, but I'm guessing about 10 1/2 x 12.
