First this is my situation. Had a water pump go bad so I tore it apart and ordered a water pump and gasket where the power head attahes to the plate, and a carb rebuild. I have been waiting 2 weeks on the carb rebuild (ordered before the water pump died) and a week on the water pump and gasket. So I dug up a good usable (used that I had) water pump and made a gasket for the powerhead. Threw the motor back onto the boat to try to start pumped the tank and pulled a couple times but with no luck. Grabed a little atarter fluid and tried again but still no start anyone have any ideas what this could be??? Maybe I didn't make the gasket identical as the original one so it maybe getting water into it the combustion chambers? I have no clue. Any ideas appreciated I just want to get this little boat and motor out and do some fishing. Thanks in advance James

Check to be sure you didnt disturb any wires,<br /> Check for spark.I dont think your gasket is the problem.Be sure the gas line isnt pinched.

Hey Kid -- sounds like your intuitions about rebuilding the carb were good ones. While you are waiting for the kit, you might take off the carburetor and clean it. That might get you up and running. To clean it, disassemble it like you would to rebuild it and clean every oriface (blow through it, run wire through it, shoot carb cleaner into it). Try to keep the carb cleaner out of the bowl, as it removes the coating that should remain, and it's a good idea to keep it out of your eyes as well. Make sure the needles are undamaged, and engaging properly when screwed closed. I strongly recommend a parts manual to show a blow up of the carburetor.

Thanks for the speedy replies. I ate dinner and went out to take a look and the front of the carb is leaking so I guess I will have to wait. I may just cancel the order and go to laings if they have it in stock about a 3 1/2 hour round trip so maybe that will get me on the water tommorow night. Thanks again and any other thoughts are appreciated. James

You might want to reconsider using starter fluid on your motor. It strips the cylinder walls of oil causing scoring. Better to use a fuel oil mix (from your fuel tank) in a spray bottle. Just spray it into the carb throat and give it a pull.

The carb is probably leaking due to a misadjusted float. Take the carb off. Remove the bowl and turn the top of the carb upside down. The float should be level with/parallel to the housing. If it's not, just carefully bend the brass arm connected to the float until the float is level (needle-nosed pliers works well). While you are in there, make sure the float valve is not gummed up and the needle controlling fuel flow is free to open and close.
