Hi,

New guy to the forum. My question is, can I buy a kit with all parts needed to change my model # 10016 sportwin to a single fuel line? I have read most posts for other hp motors but not one specific to my model and hp. Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, you can actually convert yours easily, because the later models (1960 and newer) came factory with fuel pumps. So, the conversion would be easy.

Re: 1958 evinrude 10 hp fuel conversion

I have a 58 sportwin model 10016, just like yours, that I just got done converting last night. I found a guy that would sell me the by-pass cover plate that is ported for the fuel pump. I got the original fuel pump also but it will not work in our application. The hookup ports on the fuel pump face foward and there is not enough room between the hookups on the pump and the lever that moves in and out as you shift. So, I tapped the by-pass cover out to 1/8 in pipe and bought a brass barbed fitting and mounted a lawn and garden mower fuel pump( I am a parts manager for a john deere dealer) elsewhere on the motor and ran my hoses to where they needed to be. You will also need to take a short piece of hose and install it on the manifold barb fitting and screw a bolt in the end of the hose. I don't know if this makes sense to ya, but I'd be glad to help you with any questions. I'll try to post some pictures. They are worth a thousand words.

fishOholic, have a 1958 10hp that I want to convert. Have read other threads about removing check valves and using gasket sealer to block other places. Is this necessary? thanks for any help

I have done the check valve thing under the intake manifold and it works. But, it is not the best way, in my opinion. If you are using the bypass cover method (the best I think), you will only need to put a plug over the nipple that comes out of the intake which the air line to the tank fits on. The intake bypass will then provide your pulse vaccuum for the 3 line fuel pump of your choice. I'm suprised the little square OMC pumps on so many of their models won't fit on the bypass cover without interference. I guess for the little square one you'd need a special bypass cover just for it, that has the 2 screw holes tapped into it as well.
Good luck,
JBJ

I have used a mikuni pump now a couple times (available cheap on fleabay).

Just tap a barb into the bypass cover (remove it so that you do not get chips in the motor). I only modify the intake manifolds on the 5.5s.
