I've acquired a 1958 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5 HP that I plan on using on my 1963 Columbia Challenger (24 ft) sailboat. I'm having trouble getting spark. Compression is 40 lbs. per cylinder and I've installed new coils. There doesn't seem to be much adjustment for the coils. There isn't any spark. Anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong. Supposedly, the motor was running in the past 2 years. Any advice is appreciated. I can be reached at sailingjk@hotmail.com

1st recheck your compression with another guage, it is extremely low. the base of the coil has to be lined up with the mount on the timer plate, the points set at .020. are you sure the plug wire is making contact with the pin in the coil? if you use the type kit that you put the plug end on the wire, strip back the wire, and wrap it around the metal connector, before putting the boot on. you could also have bad condensers. did you clean the points.
