Hi, My neighbor said he has a 1958 Evinrude Super Fastwin 15 horse ;power for sale. It is a very pretty light blue color. It does not have electric start on it. I would like to know if I can put electric start on it.? He also said that it calls for ( I think he said 24 to 1 gas mix.) But he said it does not hurt it to run 50 to 1 mix. Does that sound right.to you guys.? thank you very much for the help.

Well it ain't a 1958 15 because there is no such thing. Maybe a 1954. They didn't start putting starters on them till 1956. There was such a thing as a 1956 electric start 15, but I don't think it was called a "Super" Fastwin. I might be mistaken on that. I suppose anything is possible, but not always practical. You are going to run into a few snags if you try to put one on a 1954. For one, there won't be any teeth on the flywheel, and if you try to replace the flywheel, it won't fit under the recoil starter.

As always, "Model number???"

Those are nice motors! I used to collect them until I saw those hoarding shows and thought, I've better stop! (I still have 5 left..) F_R is correct... 1953-54, 1955, 1956 and they didn't start making new models until 1965 in the 15hp's. Mine all started on the second pull, but if a person has shoulder/elbow issues, I totally understand.

My information on 53/54 Super Fastwin from a 54 chart. 1/2 pt per gallon that's 16:1.
Tell him never to try 50:1.The motor will be terminal.
