Dumb question time. I just rebuilt my carb and noticed issues with the needle valves (both the slow speed and fast speed needles). The one in the bottom looked like it used to be the sharp one, but had been broken off at the tip. The upper one looked good and appeared to be the "blunt" one. According to my parts guide, the upper one should be a 303966 (sharp) and the lower should be a 304600.

Going by this information, the needle valves as they were installed when i got the boat were reversed. I ordered a new 303966 needle valve for the top (slow speed) and will put the "blunt" needle in the lower (fast speed).

My question is, is this correct? Is the "sharp" needle the top, and the lower the "blunt" needle?

Or am I just all jacked up?????

Thanks!

The top (slow speed) is the very sharp pointed needle valve.

The bottom (high speed) is the blunt looking one. Looks like the point has been cut off.

Thanks, that's what I had deduced also. It looks like the needle valves were reversed from the last owner. He said the motor ran like that... Hmmmm....... Oh well.....

Well sure it is possible to make it run with the needles reversed, but it would be very difficult to get the adjustment right.

Yea I recently got a motor that had the needles reversed :D

Having the low speed on the bottom though, you wont be able to lean it out, without bending the tip and breaking it. because of the depth of the jet hole.

Yeah, it was broke clean off. I found it in the drain plug area when cleaning and rebuilding. Doh!

Yep, that'll do it. If you just replace the broken one and put them back in the correct holes, you should be good to go.
